PLANS FOR WEBELOS CUBMOBILE

We have begun preparing for the Webelos Woods event this year and will be building our own entry for the Cubmobile Race.  Webelos (only) will be meeting at the Church to begin work on the project within the next few weeks.  This is a major goal for the Webelos this year and something they have never tried before.  Webelos Woods is scheduled for September 23-25, 2011, so Webelos need to gather all your good ideas and energy to put into this first-time phenomenon.

RECRUITMENT NIGHT SCHEDULED

THURSDAY, AUGUST 18, 2011, 6:30 p.m.

SOUTH DOUGLAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

We have been assigned our night for recruitment at South Douglas Elementary School.  At this Thursday night event we would like to have as many Scouts and Den Leaders as possible in uniform to welcome our new recruits.  We will display some of our Pinewood Derby cars, tool boxes, bird houses, and other crafts the Scouts have made, as well as other collections and contributions the boys have shared.   Please let your Scout select something he is proud of and willing to show that night and bring it with you to the recruitment meeting.  It will be set up in display format along with camping items and other Scouting symbols.

Remember to have your Scouts ask their friends to attend this important night of information and sign-ups for a year of Scouting fun.

Please advise Sandy Hoskinson if you are attending this event.  Appropriate assignments will be made to facilitate a smooth registration process.

PARENT ORIENTATION

All parents are asked to meet at New Covenant Church on Monday, August 22, to discuss the upcoming year’s plans for Pack 39.  The Executive Committee has completed the Financial Policy for the coming year, which will involve a new system of accounting for all Scouts as well as the Pack.  Please plan to attend this very important meeting at 7:00 p.m.  If at all possible, we would like this to be a parents-only meeting since there will be no activities planned for the boys.

In addition, any new parents who were signed up at the South Douglas Recruitment Night  will be there to finish their paperwork.  It will give you an opportunity to meet all the new people you will be working with during the new scouting year.

SNAKE DAY – COCHRAN MILLS NATURE CENTER

8/27/11 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Plans are being made to attend this event at Cochran Mills Nature Center.  The cost is $6 per person and additional information will be outlined in the next Newsletter or in another e-mail to all parents

SCOUTING SIGN FOR CHURCH

The Webelos are now working on the sign that will be erected in front of New Covenant Church designating the meeting place for Pack, Troop, and Venture Groups.  Webelos (only) have been painting the sign at the Church and have the project approximately half done.  The goal is to have the sign finished and hung prior to the parent orientation on August 22.

TRAINING

During our June 12 meeting Joanna distributed a list of training that is required of our Den Leaders and Committee members.  Please review the list and advise when you will be able to complete the training.  This will allow us to accomplish 100% on our Journey to Excellence Award training goals.

Anyone who is interested in attending additional Cub Scout Training should go to the Sweetwater District Website (http://www.sweetwaterbsa.org) to see what is available.  There are several Baloo and OWL classes coming up.  If you have any questions, you can check with Joanna LaConto or Bo Hunt.

 NEW HEALTH FORMS

If you have not already done so, please remember to get your son’s new health form completed when he goes to the doctor for his pre-school year medical exam.  Please get the new Health Forms on line or from your Den Leader during the Rocket Launch, so we can get them completed and make copies for the files we must maintain at Pack-level.  If you have any questions, please contact Joanna LaConto or Sandy Hoskinson.

SUMMERTIME PACK AWARD

We succeeded in achieving our Summertime Pack Award after completion of our bowling event.  We will complete the paperwork to receive the award and hope to present it during September.  Thanks to your combined efforts we can add another accomplishment to our “legend”

Thought for the Week:   There is no elevator to success.  You have to take the stairs.
